
‘New work for Michelle O’Rourke’
Ed is currently working on a new project for singer Michelle O’Rourke. The new work ‘Distant Voices’ (working title) will be an evening long work for Michelle and featuring Ed on live electronics. The piece will feature multi-layered voices with all parts sung by Michelle and presented in an immersive, surround sound environment. The project commissioned by Michelle O’Rourke is supported by an award from the Arts Council of Ireland.

Premiere of ‘Concerto for Piano, Keyboards and Orchestra’ at New Music Dublin
‘Concerto for Piano, Keyboards and Orchestra’ was commissioned by the New Music Dublin Festival and RTE for the soloist Xenia Pestova Bennett and the RTE Concert Orchestra. The new 30 minute work was premiered at the National Concert Hall in Dublin alongside works by Olga Neuwirth and Irene Buckley and conducted by Gavin Maloney.

Premiere of ‘All Earth Once Drowned’ in London, Belfast and Dublin
‘All Earth Once Drowned’ is a new 70 minute work for ensemble, improvisers and spoken word working with texts by the Irish poet Cherry Smyth. The text and music addresses our relationship to the changing environment and particularly our relationship to the sea and how those changes affect our own and the planets welfare. It is part lament and part celebration.

‘Portrait Concert at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire’
Royal Birmingham Conservatoire recently hosted a birthday portrait concert of Ed’s music featuring the Thallein Ensemble and legendary saxophonist Paul Dunmall. The concert featured four of Ed’s works ‘Sometimes Everything Falls Apart’, ‘Spirals’, Tailbird’ and ‘Dzama Stories’ alongside brand new works by student composers written especially for the concert and in reaction to Ed’s music and influences.

‘Belonging’ BBC Radio 3 concert with Michaela Riener and the Ulster Orchestra’

‘Portrait Concert at Kunstlerhaus Villa Concordia’
Recently a portrait concert of Ed’s music was presented as part of Ed’s time as a 2024/25 season fellow at the Kunstlerhaus Villa Concordia in Bamberg, Germany. The concert featured the soprano Michaela Riener and harpist Eve Tebbe performing ‘Journal Songs’ (2020) for voice, harp and synth and pianist Xenia Pestova Bennett performing ’21 Exotic Objects’ for piano and electronic media.

Ed Bennett Elected to Aosdána
Aosdána, founded in 1981, honours artists whose work has made an outstanding contribution to the creative arts in Ireland.

Internationales Künstlerhaus Villa Concordia Award
Ed has been awarded a fellowship from the Internationales Künstlerhaus Villa Concordia in Germany. This prestigious award is given to international artists in recognition of their complete body of work. Ed will join other awarded artists creating new work at the Künstlerhaus throughout 2024 and early 2025. More information on the award can be found here.

‘Everything is Connected’ a new evening long work for ensemble and spoken word
Ed will create a substantial new work ‘Everything is Connected’ for 10 musicians and spoken word. The evening long work will feature texts addressing environmental issues by the Irish poet Cherry Smyth who will perform live with the ensemble. Premiere performances are planned for the Autumn in Belfast, Dublin and London culminating in a performance at London Jazz Festival.
